1) When does the zman begin and end?
2024-2025
Winter Zman 5785:
Winter Zman will start IY''H on Sunday, the 2nd of Cheshvan/ November 3rd, 2024. There is regular seder Sunday afternoon.
The Winter Zman will conclude on Thursday evening, March 20th, 2025 (20th of Adar).
We must insist on Talmidim not leaving before this date in order for the Zman to remain strong until the very end. Therefore, we ask that you please refrain from purchasing tickets for flights leaving before Thursday night. Please prioritize purchasing your son's tickets home ASAP, ensuring they are scheduled for Thursday evening or later.
Summer Zman 5785:
Summer Zman begins IY''H on Tuesday, the 1st of Iyar/ April 29th, 2025. There is regular seder Tuesday morning and therefore, Talmidim are required to be in Yeshiva by Monday evening, April 28th, 2025.
The Summer Zman concludes a week after Shiva Asar B'Tammuz. This year, that date falls on Sunday, July 20th.
We understand that many Talmidim will want to be home for Shabbos, so we have decided to end the Zman two days earlier, on Thursday, July 17th, to accommodate this. However, for Talmidim who wish to stay, the Yeshiva will remain open through Sunday.

2) What is the daily schedule in Yeshiva?
Please click here to see the daily schedule.
3) Is there a group flight?
The Yeshiva does not arrange group flights. Parents tend to prefer booking their own flights and finding the best deals. Talmidim usually know who else is coming to Yeshiva and are in touch with each other about traveling together.
4) When is the Poland trip scheduled? How do I find out more about it?
Dates and itinerary are arranged by Nesivos Tours in coordination with the Yeshiva. If you would like more information please be in direct contact with Nesivos Tours:

7) What size mattresses are the beds in Yeshiva?
The beds are regular twin size mattresses - 90 in. by 190 in.
8) What are the fees for laundry service?
We offer a washing machine and dryer rental service in our dormitory. The cost is $125, which will be charged to the credit card on file.
9) Why do I need AIM Health Insurance? Can I sign up with another Israeli health plan or continue to use non-Israeli health insurance plan?
Every Talmid must have Israeli Health insurance. AIM is recommended because it is Anglo friendly, and they are always available to answer your questions and get involved in case of an emergency Ch"V. An AIM doctor visits the Yeshiva once a week. Because they pay doctors privately, they have more pull when needed. They have a proven track record and are used by many Yeshivos and Seminaries.
You can also sign up with Harel, Meuchedet, or MSG. However, we have no connection with them and could not help you navigate issues that may arise. We recommend doing so only if your son can speak Hebrew and he or you can deal with any bureaucracy that may come up. Meuchedet is slightly cheaper, and some of their doctors are lenient / quicker to prescribe medicine as per the patient's request. They also cater to Israelis (not just foreign students) of all age groups and therefore for example, had quicker access to the vaccine.
Why can't you simply use your non-Israeli Health Insurance plan? In addition to the above considerations and concerns, in such case where your son needs immediate care, may it never come to this, he'll have to present a credit card and lay out the funds on the spot in order to be treated. Some hospitals may not admit your son or release him without payment upfront. In addition, he or you will have to get through all the red tape afterwards in order to be reimbursed and navigate the Israeli bureaucracy system. We therefore don't allow this.
The following was posted by Chaim Vchessed - April 2024:
Visitors to Israel often believe that their insurance from their home country will cover them while in Israel. “This is often not the case, “ Paysach Freedman, CEO of Chaim V’Chessed states emphatically. “Each Yom Tov we are contacted by visitors to Israel who are experiencing a medical crisis. Many of these visitors only discover in the emergency room that their foreign insurance does not cover them abroad.” Even if your insurance does cover you while in Israel, it is often complicated to obtain reimbursement, says Freedman. To mitigate risks, Chaim V’Chessed advises all visitors to Israel to purchase dedicated traveler’s insurance, supplementing any existing coverage from their home country.

13) What is a sample trip schedule for the year, and how much is the Talmidim's share of the cost?
Below is a sample trip listing combining trip schedules from previous years. The number of trips will vary from year to year depending on what the Hanhala feels is needed for the Talmidim’s growth and government guidelines. Prices may vary depending on actual costs (usually between $30-$350. The Mezibuz trip was $500). A small number of these trips may be for first-year Talmidim only and some trips are optional.
1. Several trips at the beginning of the year for Talmidim to form a group - $150

4. 3-day trip after Chanukah - $325 – to recharge and refresh

Last year we took the Talmidim up north for a beautiful Shabbos with the entire staff. The subsidized cost was $200.

14) How should I order my son's seforim? Is there a way to get them through the Yeshiva or is it better for him to bring them from home?
We usually suggest the Bochurim buy seforim in Eretz Yisroel so that he purchases the right one and saves on space and weight when coming to Yeshiva. There are several seforim your son can order in advance and we will provide a link when we get closer to the start of the Zman.
The Yeshiva arranges the purchase of a full set of Mishna Brurah at a discounted price. There will be signs posted throughout the Yeshiva at the beginning of the Zman explaining to your son how he can order these seforim.
There are many seforim stores near Yeshiva where your son can purchase any other seforim that he needs.

17) What AIM plan does the Yeshiva recommend?
(Check updated plans, this was true as of 2023)
We recommend their platinum plan because it covers organized sports injuries, Poland trip, ski trip and provides some coverage for sudden onset of pre-existing conditions. Read through both plans carefully to make your decision.
The Platinum plan offers certain advantages, such as coverage for the sudden unexpected onset of pre-existing conditions, with a medical maximum of $200,000 compared to the $100,000 offered in other plans. Additionally, it includes coverage for diagnostic tests like CAT scans, MRI, and bone scans.
However, it is not mandatory. We give parents the freedom to choose the best insurance option for their child's needs. More than half tend to choose the Platinum plan.
Please see below the differences in detail:
AIM Gold Plan provides the following essential medical services for students at $595(before August 1st)
* A highly competent experienced staff of American physicians and nurses.
*. 24 hour, 7 day a week emergency hotline. There is always a doctor to speak with.
* Your child does not lay out money for services, she simply presents the AIM photo ID card.
* In case of a serious problem, the family or family doctor will be contacted by the caring physician.
* AIM arranges appointments with specialists eliminating red tape and long waiting lines.
* Emergency room and hospitalization covers all non-elective hospital fees with no deductibles or co-pay.
* The knowledge that your son will receive the best medical care available in Israel 24 hrs/day.
* Complete coverage for specialists, prescribed medications, laboratory tests, diagnostic treatment, X-rays and emergency dental care*
AIM PLATINUM Plan for only an additional $100, expands the AIM GOLD Plan benefits to include:

18) How do I apply for FAFSA?
Only Talmidim enrolled in either the Touro or Skokie overseas programs can apply for financial aid via the FAFSA application as if in attendance at an American college. A couple of points you should know about these programs:
1) Overseas programs are looking for students that will complete their undergraduate degree at their college and will not accept students that do not intend to complete their degrees at the university.
2) These programs are for one year only.
Note: it can take time to find out if you are approved, so take care of this ASAP. Contact the Office of Financial Aid at the college to which you are applying for deadline information.

19) Can we receive a 1098T for tax purposes? Can we use funds from a 529 savings plan?
RE 1098T:
Unfortunately, we cannot provide a 1098. Only American Universities can do this. The Yeshiva, as an Israeli educational institution, will not qualify. We do not exist as an educational institution in the United States.
The Maalot program, though US accredited, is based in E"Y and therefore will also not help for a 1098 form.
Talmidim may enroll for one year in Touro or Skokie overseas programs. They are then officially enrolled in an American University and will be able to get a 1098. Confirm with those programs directly. Note: these overseas programs are looking for students that will complete their undergraduate degree at their college and will not accept students that do not intend to complete their degrees at the university.
The Yeshiva may limit participation in the Touro Israel Option program during a Talmid's first or second year, depending on Touro's current policies. Participation is permitted for the 2024-2025 academic year.
RE 529:
The Yeshiva, as an Israeli educational institution, does not meet the qualifications. We are not recognized as an educational institution in the United States.
However, there is an alternative option. If your son enrolls in our Maalot college credit program, he may be eligible. The cost for the Maalot program is $1,400 per year.
In this case, we would provide a letter stating that your son is enrolled at Yeshiva Toras Chaim, a branch of the Maalot Educational Network. This branch is accredited by the National College Credit Recommendation Service (NCCRS). Your son would be earning college credits towards a degree at Excelsior College, which is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE).
To clarify whether this option qualifies for your particular situation, we recommend consulting with your fund administrator. Their interpretation may vary, so it's best to seek their guidance first. Once you have received their response, please inform us about their decision.

20) Why doesn't the Yeshiva qualify for Masa scholarships? Are their any other scholarships you can recommend?
Unfortunately, we do not qualify for the Masa program. Their requirements do not fit with the Yeshivas outlook and hashkafa.
You may want to try local shuls. They sometimes have a Rabbi's discretionary fund.
Try asking your son's 12th grade Rebbi, they are sometimes aware of local scholarships.

21) What are my college credit and degree options?
Yeshiva Toras Chaim is a non-accredited institution. We offer college credits for learning done in Yeshiva that can be transferred to colleges that accept non-accredited credits. For example, Touro or FDU (Farleigh Dickenson) will accept non-accredited Yeshiva credits.
However, if a Talmid wants to consider one of the popular online degrees, he will need accredited credits. For example, Excelsior and AGMU (Ana Mendez) only accept accredited credits. The Yeshiva, for this reason, became a branch of the Maalot institution, accredited by NCCRS. Talmidim that sign up for the Maalot program take tests on what they are learning in Yeshiva and receive accredited credits through Maalot. The cost for one year of the program is $1,400. These credits can later be transferred to these online programs and take care of a large number of the course and credit requierments.
In order to earn a degree, in addition to the Maalot Judaic credits earned at Yeshiva your son will also need to take tests on secular subjects (we introduce Talmidim to TRIO, they study and take tests over Bein Hazmananim, TRIO charges per test). When he is done amassing the Judaic credit requirements (approx 3 years), and secular credit requirements (can be done in 1 1/2 years) and he leaves Yeshiva he can then complete his degree at Excelsior or AGMU. The final 6-7 credits require two 8-week semesters with regular computer access.
The cost from start to finish is approx $12,000 including Maalot, TRIO, and Excelsior (or AGMU) fees.
Note, there is no formal connection between Maalot, TRIO an Excelsior. These are three seperate programs researched and aligned to help the Talmidim earn a degree.
Excelsior Option #1
81 Maalot credits. Cost = $4,200 ($1,400 * 3 yrs)
33 TRIO credits. Cost = $3,600
7 Excelsior credits. Cost = *$4,031
Total = $11,831
Excelsior #2
72 Maalot credits. Cost = $3,750 ($1,400 * 2 yrs, and $950 in 3rd year)
42 TRIO credits. Cost = $4,200
7 Excelsior credits. Cost = *$4,031
Total = $11,981
AGMU
60 Maalot credits. Cost = $3,150 ($1,400 * 2 yrs, and $350 in 3rd year)
54 TRIO credits. Cost = $5,750
6 AGMU credits. Cost = $2,250
Total = $11,150

25) May I come and see Yeshiva Toras Chaim?
Yes. Please e-mail us in advance and we will suggest the best time.
26) May I come visit my son in Yeshiva?
Yeshiva Toras Chaim welcomes parents and we love meeting you and sharing nachas. Fathers are more than welcome to come learn with their sons in the Beis Medrash (subject to the current guidelines of the Ministry of Health). However, please remember that it can be disruptive to your son's growth if you take him out of Yeshiva. Therefore, if you come to visit, please make sure to limit the amount of time you take your son out and try to arrange to do so during the lunch break. Rebbeim are generally available between 1:30 and 2:30 P.M.
27) What is the Yeshiva's exact address?

29) How do I set up an appointment with an AIM doctor?
1) Talmid calls AIM office 02-653-7111 2.
2) Office staff takes basic information and gives the Talmid a time slot during which the physician will call back for a telemedicine conference
3) Doctor and Talmid have telemedicine session
4) Decision is made if the student needs an office appointment or if it can be diagnosed over the phone.
AIM encourages Talmidim to call early in the day. Any call after 12:00 PM may be given an appointment for the following day. Friday appointments end at 11:30 AM therefore you'll want to call as early as you can on Fridays.
The doctor often visits the Yeshiva once or twice a week. No appointment is needed.

30) How will I get my prescription and prescribed medication?
If AIM prescribes medication, the prescription can be e-mailed directly to Uziel or Palmach pharmacy in Yerushalayim (they do delivery for a cost to the Talmid) or it can be emailed or to the Talmid or Yeshiva office.
The Talmid should let the doctor know during the phone conference how they would prefer the prescription to be sent.
Note, the pharmacy guarantees delivery the same day, only if the prescription is received before 1:00 PM
Controlled medication prescriptions will need to be picked up at the AIM office. This does not require an appointment, but the Talmid must contact the AIM office to let them know they need a refill.

31) How do I apply for a student visa?
This question comes in two flavors:
A) first-year Talmidim who never had a student visa
B) returning Talmidim whose visas will expire before the end of the Summer Zman, or who renewed/will renew their passport and therefore need a new student visa.
The same answer for both:
The Yeshiva will apply for student visas for all new Talmidim and for returning Talmidim who need a new student visa. This is done after Talmidim arrive and hand in their passports to the office. The procedure is usually completed sometime after Succos - before Chanukah. Our office will need clear colored scans of passport and birth certificate.

32) I am under 18, how do I apply for a student visa?
If your son is under 18, he will apply for his student visa in Israel after turning 18. If he turns 18 before we apply for the Talmidim as a group, the process will be the same as for everyone else. If he turns 18 after the group application, we will provide guidance on the application process.
33) How do I get from the airport to Yeshiva?
The Yeshiva address is 7 Harikma Street, in the Romema neighborhood in Yerushalayim. The train from the airport stops at the central bus station, which is very close to the Yeshiva. For a new Talmid, we'd recommend a taxi, available when you exit the airport. If you have a medium size group traveling together, you can contact Eli Shapiro, friendly, frum, English speaking, to arrange in advance for a van (called "tender" in Israel). He can be reached at 972-58-411-5579. (We wouldn't recommend ordering a taxi through him because he'd be more expensive than the taxi at the airport)
34) Is there a cell phone reception problem in the Yeshiva building? How do I reach my son?
There was a reception problem in certain areas of the Yeshiva building. The cell phone company sorted it out and we are no longer experiencing trouble with this.
Make sure your son activates his cell phone answering machine. That's what many Talmidim do, it is the best way to ensure that you can reach him. In general their phone will not be on when they are learning in the Beis Medrash most of the day, so voice message is often the best way to let them know you're trying to reach them
